"Are you really staying back?" Diya asked Nisha over the phone while adjusting the plates of her saree. She had finally decided to attend the wedding and thanks to her luck, she was able to find a beautifully netted saree among her clothes. When she had left home, she had hastily packed up her stuff. But luckily, she had managed to put in a few gorgeous outfits and this saree was one of them.
"Yes, I shall stay back for two more days," came Nisha's quick response, "the reception is in New Delhi and as it is I am not going there."
"I don't get it," said Diya, "why aren't you going back home then?"
"Because you are not ready to leave this place."
"I told you that I have nowhere to go. The rest is a long story."
"What if I tell you that I have nowhere to go too!"
"I don't understand anything," Diya said in a confused tone.
She heard a knock at the door. With her phone in one hand and earrings in the other, she rushed to open it.
Nisha hurriedly walked past her and rushed into the washroom. When she came out, she sank down on the couch with an irritated look on her face.
"If only," said Nisha in an unhappy voice, "this could have waited till tomorrow. Last month it was on the 29th, then how come so early this month?"
"Its just 4 days early and thats pretty normal," said Diya and sat down beside her.
"Nothing," said Nisha, "is normal in this place. I am getting an eerie feeling being in here."
"And you still wish to stay back?"
Nisha looked up at Diya with concern. How strange that she didn't even know this girl too well and still bonded so well with her. A single day of interaction had made her realise that this meeting was not a simple coincidence. It was so in alignment with the will of the universe.
"You know," said Nisha, "that when you first entered my room that night, I felt that you were insane."
"What! Did I look that scary?"
"Yes, you looked like a dragon!"
The two girls then burst into laughter. Nisha helped Diya with her saree and also with her hair-do.
"So," said Diya, "you told me that you have nowhere to go?"
"Well, lets put this simply. I don't know who you are and where are you from and in a way thats good. Sharing your feelings with a stranger is a whole lot easier. I can't say exactly, whether I was fired or I resigned, but the thing is that here I am, without a job."
"But," said Diya.
"I know," said Nisha, "that I can go back to my own apartment or my parents' house but the thing is that I need some space but at the same time I am also afraid of being alone. I will be better if I stay here with you and to be honest I am a bit worried for you."
"Well its great that you are staying back. I guess that we can look for a job together, and please something which isn't a scam."
"Are you one of those people who got fooled by that Mother earth scam?"
"Yes, my bad luck. I had left my job for it. But no regrets, I had always hated that job. You know sometimes we take a decision with a vision of a particular destination in mind, but sometimes our vision is just an illusion and God is leading us to something even better."
"Thats pretty inspiring."
