YOGA : An Art That Keeps You Young

It was just 3 years back in 2014 when the current Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi put forward in his speech delivered at the United Nations General Assembly talked about yoga and a declared a day to celebrate it world wide. He stated:
Yoga is an invaluable gift of India’s ancient tradition. It embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfillment; harmony between man and nature; a holistic approach to health and well-being. It is not about exercise but to discover the sense of oneness with yourself, the world and the nature. By changing our lifestyle and creating consciousness, it can help in well being. Let us work towards adopting an International Yoga Day.
Yoga has become a religion now. Talking about the origin, which goes back to the beginning since when the civilizations came into existence, Yog or Yoga has always been a part. Shiva, the Hindu deity is considered to be the first Yogi.
But let’s not trace that back. Where the emphasis lay is how Yoga has taken a complete new turn over these past 2-3 years. More since, internationally a day has been marked to recognize its ambiance and importance.
What’s so special about Yoga that this discipline remains as young and polished as it has always been?
Yoga might make you forever young. True, it is. As for an example, we saw how World’s oldest Yog gurus took on the stage on this Yoga day to still be able to teach Yoga at this age of 98 with the strength and enthusiasm that compels one to wonder in amusement. These ladies who are soon to complete a century of a lifetime show spirit as young as anyone could imagine.

On the right side is Yoga teacher Tao Porchon-Lynch (98.5 years old) while on her left is Yoga guru Amma Nannamal (98 years old).
Hard to believe but it’s true. This is the power of Yoga. This is the miracle that can happen to anyone who ardently follows Yoga. And why should one not? Do we not wish for a healthy and long future?
The sooner we realize it the better we could shape our coming years.
