We all remember Chetan Bhagat for his books. His books always make headlines but recently he is getting trolled on twitter for his tweets regarding ban on Diwali Crackers. The Supreme Court on Monday banned the sale of fireworks during Diwali in the Delhi-NCR region citing environmental decisions. Most people were ecstatic and welcomed the order, but there was a section of people that gave the order a communal color. It really gives us immense pain to listen to such explanations. We all are aware that Air pollution is a vital threat to mankind. We always blame government for every calamity but whenever they declare ban on important aspects some people in India boycott the decision with stupid arguments.
Author Chetan Bhagat has come forward asking what is Diwali without crackers? What will children do? Before posting such thoughts you should have thought for a second that this decision will be a blessing for children in near future. They will be able to breathe fresh air. We all are aware that ozone layer is depleting. The depletion of ozone air will cause global warming. As Diwali is for 5 days so it’s a matter of 5 days but the next 5 days you can observe the SMOG created in the environment. The matter is not only about air pollution but sound pollution also. High velocity crackers cause severe ear drum damage.
I think children can be made understood about the shortcoming of lighting crackers. Children do understand about Global warming. Several people have come forward to oppose the ban with the following arguments like this ban won’t be effective, "As pollution is because of vehicles, road dust. Air pollution due to crackers is only for a week then why is Delhi covered with pollution whole year?" I don’t understand how these arguments should be addressed. What I understand is we all have a moral responsibility of safeguarding our environment and we all should do our best to protect the environment. We all have to start at some point in some way. Even a small step will have larger impact on environment. We all have studied a subject Environmental Studies during our academics , its the time to practice it.
This Diwali celebrate it for a cause. Create a environment where in we all can breathe safe. Go Green. Crackers do not affect only humans but also flora and fauna around us. Wishing everyone a safe Diwali.
