No force on earth can stop an idea whose time has come. The line of Victor Hugo is very much applicable in Indian politics and as of now specifically in Tamil Nadu.
After A few decades of Congress rule in Tamil Nadu there came an idea of anti-Hindi agitations which was brought by Karunanidhi in early 60s and it was well accepted by public. This anti-Hindi feeling and in the search of an alternative governance from Congress there emerged DMK. Again after ten years, there was An emergence of the great MGR who challenged Karunanidhi because of increasing corruption inside the party and formed AIADMK. Since then these parties have alternatively ruled the people of the states.
At the same time a pro-Hindu and pro-Hindi party was struggling very hard in northern part of India to give the people an alternative from Congress, first in northern states and then in the central politics which we can see how well it has done. From Atal Bihari to Rajnath Singh all the other Presidents of BJP have worked hard to expand the party all over India but the bitter truth is that they could not propagate in the south of India, which may be because of the perception that it was a party from north India with very few or no prominent South Indian face in the party. Even now all the scenarios are same except the President Amit Shah.
After the demise of Jayalaitha, there has been a big void in the state politics because the second big face of the state Stalin has not done any impressive work. DMK style of preserving vote bank is to distribute liquor, money, television sets to the poor voters at the time of election and buy the votes. This style is soon going to be obsolete. On the other hand AIADMK was split due to rift between Sasikala and OPS. It is rightly said that to bang the iron when it is hot. This was the perfect time for Amit Shah to put things on THE right place for his party. Also those 30-40 seats for 2019 elections couldn’t be ignored. The timing of Sasikala going to jail and in the meantime both the factions of AIADMK merging is quite interesting. So now Sasikala and his nephew Dinakaran are out of AIADMK.
When this political drama was going through the year, some very top politicians of AIADMK moved from a leaderless party to a party of solid leadership under Modi. Nainar Nagendran, a big name in AIADMK along with 15 more MLA has joined BJP. Amit Shah’s frequent visit to the state and improving the roots of the party in the state has also been amazing. BJP before 2019 will be in a position that it couldn’t be ignored. So if it manages to clear 10-12 seats it will be a win-win situation for Shah and company and then the way for its own CM in the state in 2020 will be not be a dream but could be a possible event which I can see from now. However it will be interesting to see how people once united for anti-Hindi agitation to decorate the throne for a CM from a pro-Hindi party.
