What is it about this green line
moving in high arcs,
as if to measure the
length of your wilted hand?
I imagined what your voice might
have tasted like,
so cracked and dry,
when it tried to escape your starved throat.
I closed your eyelids,
fed the half eaten food
to squirrels and pigeons
a story or two down.
I tossed the China
in the trashcan and left
it on someone else's road.
I let the moles eat the garlic
and potatoes.
I wasn't hungry for them anymore.
But your face I always held
onto like a puppet, clinging to thread,
trying to devise new words with color,
inspired from a hopeful twitch.
It happened so quickly,
eyes opened and closed;
then i knew, even before the siren started,
not even the heaviest of anchors
could keep you here with me for long.
I haven't been able to properly say goodbye to many of my friends, so I decided to take everyone who I've known in the past to leave me. I gave them a body, threw it in a hospital, and waved goodbye from the perspective of a character I used to be.
I still miss them, well, some of them.
