The Chaucerian sonnets, the Shakespearean plays, Doyle's thrillers, Wordsworth's verses. They are the best examples that carved a niche in the world of writing. There were many fascinating things that attracted readers during the time when technology was still a layman phenomenon to many. Today things have changed and are still changing. People today have got glued to the smart means of entertainment like cell phones, broadband, internet etc where viewing pictures and motion have become more vital than expression of words. Today they fetch knowledge by their finger tips. Even to this day, there are many who still follow the traditional way of getting entertained by reading books and following words, thus, making things even more challenging for today's writers.
There are various writing techniques that a writer adopts to keep their readers on toes. Reading, a tradition that was once upon a time a great means of passing time with substance and importance with no much options. In today's dynamic world and society, the writers and the bloggers are left with no much options but to understand the techniques and what a reader would observe today and merge them to his benefit and keep the readers and his writings on.
One such technique or a form of writing is the usage of Homophones. They are words with similar sound, spelled differently with a double sense or perhaps more. They can well form rhythmic pattern while reciting, thus, giving an added feather to the cap. Theodore Hook, an 18th century composer, was one such writer and an exponent of such writing art whose legacy still continues and fascinates many writers. Hook was known as the man of letters and best known for his practical jokes. The world's first postcard was received by him in 1840. Here we go with some verses and words punning and taking shape.
I may have dropped an idea, in the fifth month of May
June had met me yet again, in the same month before June
June had been getting enough boar as wild as she could get
Little did she go wild till she bore a child again
You can see the sea before you, one at a time
But can't see the seven seas unless you go high and beyond
The patient was impatient enough, till the nurse lost her cool
The nurse then got impatient enough, and the patient remained a fool
The doctor then came rushing after, to see his nurse in pain
The patient reigned in glory of laughter
As he was working on the pane
His psychic imbalance paved way for the nurse to leave the place
The doctor was left all alone, like "THE END" in the plays
The patient had left by then, toward his right hand to the main
The doctor had to write from his left hand
Which was earlier outside the pane
Your sin and pain may never give you gain,
The more you drug yourself, the more you go insane
I was here to hear this year what ever the day be
Just to listen to my dumb boss, which ever ear may be
I left an year and my left ear, as deaf as I could get
I just couldn't be here and hear what was there to bet
Some wear this and somewhere that, where and whoever it be
A few had known a little some how much the sum be
The incomplete scene was incompletely seen
Nobody knew, what it could have been
That scene was then completely shot
What should it completely mean
How mean and keen they sound alike
How much keen you get
As time pass by you will know
How mean I become you bet
I reigned and basked under the sun
it had never rained
Once the rain had appeared again
My reign under the sun stopped
My son now basked under the sun
Once my reign had gone
He then never got wet again
as the rain never came on
My role was eaten by the director's cut
And another roll came by
I had finished eating one roll by then
And then the other role came by
Earning rice is not an easy gain
Once you rise, giving up cheaply is a costly pain
Whether you change or remain unchanged
The weather changes
It may turn opposite to you
And apposite to barren land again
The plays may vary, and from where you come
The dramma may change but the acts remain
He got a male along with a mail
unsealed from an Orphanage
The adopted male was abandoned by those
who bore him at his little age
He then took the male into his room
who had the unsealed mail
He read the mail and told the male
"he was here to stay"
The covered butcher was so coward enough
to slaughter a life for his gain
He then gave up his butcherness and
showed how uncoward he was towards pain
He ran into her beautiful phase
ending her single lonely life
As he got wedded to her beautiful face
to get his only first wife
Firstly she was second to him
unaware about her trait
Long ago she was wedded once
until he ended her long wait
The weight was over and above the mark
the laws of wait in romance done
The loss of weight then took no time
when the evils of marriage over romance had won...
