Baby Durga, the Dream Girl of Sandalwood, the Kannada film industry, popularly known as Malashri, had been a one time refreshing charisma of the Kannada film industries in the 1990's. Malashri began her career as a child artiste and has appeared in around 30 to 34 Tamil and Telugu films before making her debut as a lead role in a kannada movie Nanjundi Kalyana in the year 1989. Not many of us know that she was a child artiste since 1979 who appeared with the then stalwarts who were in their peak or getting to the peak with stars like nadigar tilakam Shivaji Ganesan, Smt K R Vijaya, Major Sundarrajan, universal hero Kamal Hassan, bollywood's first lady superstar Sridevi etc.

She has acted in around 90 movies in the lead since 1989 till 2017. She is currently filiming for movie titled Boys. She acted on 12 movies in 1991 and 20 movies in 1992 alone.

Well known for her characters in Rani Maharani, Hrudaya Haadithu, Policena Hendthi and Ramachari, this charisma of the Kannada film industry had won a Filmfare Award for Best Actress in the year 1991 for Hrudaya Haadithu, NTR Award in 2011 and Karanataka State Film Award for best actress for the movie Ganga in 2015. She had done various characters potraying a rich girl, a poor girl, dual roles sisters, image of a homely girl, good housewife and with a few comeback hits in the new millennium giving her the "angry woman" image in films like Chamundi, Durgi and Kannada Kiran Bedi

Malashri was born and raised in Chennai, formerly Madras, into a Telugu speaking family. Her personal life hit an all-time low in the very year of 1989 when she shot to fame in "Nanjundi Kalyana". Her mother died in a fatal accident. She was believed to have an affair with the then actor Sunil, her co-star in various films. But in 1994 she met with a car accident when her car got hit by a truck. This accident proved fatal to Sunil killing him within hours. While Malashri suffered multiple injuries. It was rumored that they even had plans of getting married. She is currently married to film producer Ramu and they have 2 daughters together, Ananya and Subhashri, who is also an actress herself having appeared in a few South Indian movies.
For all said and done, even to this day there has not been a star as refreshing and charismatic as the evergreen Malashri, a true sandalwood sensation.
