How to Convert a USB Keyboard to Wireless?
Category : TUTORIALS Author : Reema Jain Date : Fri Apr 06 2018
A wireless keyboard allows users to operate a computer at a greater distance than is possible with a wired keyboard. Wireless keyboards can be very useful in the centers of home entertainment media in a computer is connected to a television set, offering the freedom to use the keyboard to sit anywhere. Converting a USB keyboard wired to wireless is possible with the right equipment on time and knowledge of what is necessary to make the wireless work.
Things You'll Need:
• Computer
• USB keyboard cable
• Two micro-controllers
Instructions:
Turn off the computer and disconnect power. Remove the USB keyboard cable from the computer USB port. Connect a micro-controller to the USB port on your keyboard. Atmel AT mega micro-controllers are well suited for this purpose, but any kind of micro-controller can be used, provided it can be powered by an internal battery and is compatible with USB. The micro-controller must carry the USB protocol, but can be purchased with the USB protocol which is already loaded, or loaded manually if desired.
Connect the radio transmitter to the micro-controller that is connected to the keyboard. The micro-controller and radio transmitter interfaces have been designated for this connection. The transmitter must be configured to transmit on 433.92 MHz Radiotronix and offers an extensive choice of transmitters appropriate for this kind of use. The spreader must be motorized by an interior battery. Connect the second micro-controller to a USB port. This micro-controller can be powered either by an internal battery or external power and the unit will remain fixed during use. Connect the second radio transmitter to the micro-controller connected to the computer. The transmitter must transmit at 433.92 MHz. This micro-controller can be powered by an internal battery or external power as the unit remains stationary during use.
Turn the two micro-controllers and two radio transmitters. Turn on the computer and restart the PC. Use the wireless keyboard as you would with a wired keyboard. After restarting the computer, the wireless keyboard should work automatically. If asked by the operating system to load the drivers for a new device, use the device drivers on the CD that comes with the keyboard. Drivers will be the same because the USB protocol is being used to control the keyboard. The only change is that data is transmitted wirelessly now, instead through a USB cable.
