Everyone of us face noise disturbance from our neighbors or from ground floor. Many of us can bear it but most of us can't. Sound travels through air and if little space remains b/w door and door frame then it will allow sound to pass through. They aren't good enough to obstruct sound and noise reaches our ears. I too faced the same. I'm lazy and often try to fix things on my own. I observed that my entrance door had some vacant space even after closing it. So, I googled up how to soundproof room but it was of no use, all it suggested was to buy a gasket or change the door. The gasket weren't expensive but many reviewers said they have bad adhesive quality and doesn't last long.
Then, I thought of making use of old wiper lying in my store-room, I teared apart it sponge from it's plastic cover and applied it to door frame. It took me hardly an hour to stick the sponge to door frame and helped me to reduce significant noise. Earlier while measuring with Sound Meter Android App it was 50-60 decibels which reduced to 10-25 dB.
Materials Required
Old Wiper / SpongeGlue / FevicolA Pair of ScissorsA Marking Pen
Procedure
Tear apart sponge from old wiper carefully. If you have a sponge ensure it is 2-3 mm thick and cut it carefully. Now, take the piece of sponge and mark with the marking pen how much it should be applied on the door frame. With the help of pair of scissors cut along the markings to get a long strip of sponge. Then apply favicol or glue on one side of sponge. You just cut it and stick on the door frame. Wait for it to set.
Close the door.
Precautions
Don't apply too much glue.Cut the sponge as much as required otherwise you'll face difficulty in closing the door.Don't use too much thick or too thin sponge. It's better if you mark along the length of sponge and it is better to take sponge with a good length.
